DOESN'T YOUR HORSE DESERVE THE BEST? |
A certified full-time farrier since 1986, I've had personal experience with knee trouble, as well as hip, back, hand, elbow, wrist, heel, and neck pain... all those aching body parts that one would consider normal for someone who spent their days shoeing horses. The truth is that people can develop these sorts of musculoskeletal pains from all kinds of occupations. People with physically demanding jobs are not the only one's who suffer; the daily rigors of life and those with genetic predisposition can also succumb to everyday pain. It's not WHAT we do that leads to pain and injury, but it's our own individual muscular imbalance that leads to injury and pain. Having been a client of the Egoscue Method, I discovered that we are all capable of keeping our bodies pain free and fit for work and play by spending 15 to 30 minutes a day committed to an exercise "menu". The human form is suited to eliminate chronic pain without drugs or surgery by following a routine of simple exercises to restore balance and "load-joint" alignment to the body and its relationship to gravity. Since 2006, I have been a certified Postural Alignment Specialist, an affiliate of the Egoscue Method.(www.egoscue.com) As a farrier, I have seen hoof deformations and balance issues for horses clear up with body work (massage therapy, chiropractics, acupuncture), and as an equine massage therapist (certified since 1997), I have experienced muscular problems in the horses clear up with body work on the rider! Many riders are aware of how the pelvic position affects horses as we ride them, but just as many people are not aware of how our pelvic position affects the rider! Our ability to compensate for our hip disparities, pelvic tilts, and misaligned load joints masks our own crookedness which becomes not only "normal" but in the end, feels "straight" to us. Even though we may feel aligned, a horse knows better. As we ride, we can ask ourselves questions that may reveal our own previously unknown misalignments. Does the horse not readily respond to cues in one direction or the other? Look at stirrup leathers and lengths. Does the saddle continually slip to one side? Do you continually shift to one side? Does the horse drift? Do you have difficulty rising to the trot? Does your horse have troublesome hoof flares and/or uneven wear on its hooves? It could be related to a hip disparity in the rider, not the horse. Postural alignment exercise therapy is a series of gentle, easy exercises customized to the individual's needs and designed to disengage dysfunctionally tight muscles and restore function and balance in order to realign our bodies with the great force we all have to contend with... gravity. Solutions for chronic aches and pains are available... Please feel free to call me @ 410-822-9438 or email me: carey@caperlea.com for further details or to make an appointment |
